The Room That Wasn't on Any Drawing
Old drawings have a habit of being confidently wrong.
A building gets extended, a wall gets moved, a previous owner adds a conservatory nobody bothered to record properly — and the drawing in the file cabinet quietly stops matching the actual building. Nobody notices until someone starts designing off it.
This comes up more often than you'd think. A staircase that's shifted from where the plan says it is. A room that's a completely different shape once you're standing in it. None of it is anyone's fault, exactly — buildings just change more than paperwork does.
It's the reason a proper survey starts from scratch rather than trusting whatever floor plan happens to exist already. The building gets to speak for itself, rather than defending someone else's decades-old sketch.
